CFO Moves to New Hospital with a Need to Establish Solid Coding for an Optimal Reimbursement Platform
Challenge
A new opportunity often provides the need to hit the ground running. Jerry Paule, CFO, had just that circumstance. He arrived at Kennewick General Hospital, a 100 bed acute care facility, with a need to optimize reimbursement. This was a good time to establish a solid base of coding for reimbursement to the hospital. Knowing nationwide that there was a general shortage of certified professional coders, the ability to recruit, maintain, and train a professional team of coders was challenging. In addition, the coding firm currently being used to assist was not providing optimal service.
Solution and Results
Working with G2N previously, Jerry knew first-hand that G2N could provide accurate and timely certified coding services. At his previous hospital, he had brought in G2N many years ago to provide all of the coding for the hospital. He knew he could rely on the accuracy provided, as a recent audit of that hospital’s coding established a 95%-98% accuracy profile by an independent coding audit firm. “I felt that getting accurate coding established early was going to be key in our plan to optimize our reimbursement”, Jerry stated. While engaging G2N on several revenue cycle projects, Jerry wanted to get started with establishing a strong coding base, and having G2N’s AHIMA-certified coders provided him with the peace of mind about coding that he had before.

G2N CAN HELP YOU IMPROVE CODING AND CAPTURE MORE REVENUE.
Challenge
Phelps County Regional Medical Center realized some big improvements were needed. “We had 30 days tied up in coding. The backlog was horrible.” said the CFO. The team assessed the situation and brought in G2N to manage the hospital’s ED coding.
Solution and Results
Before long, G2N was doing 100% of Phelps’ coding. “G2N gave us confidence almost immediately,” stated the CFO. “They consistently cared about quality, and their work was rock-solid.” With G2N’s assistance, the hospital now has millions more in the bank for the hospital. G2N specializes in recapturing revenue for healthcare facilities – whether from coding, billing, revenue cycle improvement or anything else.
Community Hospital Utilizes G2N to Supplement Physician Coding
Challenge
Many hospitals are acquiring physician practices, and Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, MO is no exception. A 116 bed hospital in central Missouri, Lake Regional finds that strategic alliances enhance the services they provide to their community. Along with the benefits, there are additional demands that hospital leadership face to assure reimbursement and compliance are appropriate. A reliable coding service firm was needed to provide physician coding for some physician practices.
Solution and Results
It was important to the management team that a trusted partner was available to help with coding when physician practices needed assistance. This would not only allow doctors to focus on their patients, but also provide a smooth transition for coding at an important time. “I was aware of G2N’s reputation for coding, and they stepped up to provide the solution I needed, “noted Darla Wilkerson, Director of Patient Financial Services for Lake Regional. “We needed consistent coding, from a production and accuracy standpoint, and G2N is providing top results.” Knowing that aspect of the Business Office is performing well gives Darla peace of mind and time to address other management duties.

Temporary Emergency Department Coding Leads to Continued Coding Assistance in Other Areas
Challenge
St. Luke’s Hospital is a 475 bed hospital located in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2007, all coding for the Emergency Department was being outsourced. St. Luke’s administration made the decision to bring ED coding inhouse by their own coding staff. The highly qualified coding staff took on the added responsibility. As expected, the added responsibilities of the ED coding affected overall coding productivity. A solution was necessary to maintain required DNFB targets.
Solution and Results
HIM Administration was familiar with G2N’s coding expertise and G2N was engaged to provide temporary coding assistance to help avoid coding backlogs with the Emergency Department coding. Focusing on the ramp-up of the staff for ED coding, G2N assisted for about three months. After that particular engagement was completed, Lisa and the HIM management team were very happy with the results that were achieved by G2N working in tandem with their coders. “I had a lot of confidence in the G2N coders provided”, Lisa said. It was decided that G2N would stay on as needed to assist with coding during vacations, extended time off, and vacancies. In a recent survey, G2N was given the highest possible ranking in coding quality and overall satisfaction by Lisa.
